April Rain
April Rain is a four-movement suite that uses traditional Taiwanese melodies. It also explores the timbre and textures created by dialogues between percussion and cello.
Each movement is based on a well-known Taiwanese folk song—“Year-Round Admiration" (四季紅), "Sorrow in a Moonlit Night" (月夜愁), "Longing for the Spring Breeze" (望春風), and "Flowers on a Rainy Night" (雨夜花). Through these melodies, the piece intertwines nostalgia, hope, and emotions deeply rooted in Taiwanese culture. By blending the expressive voice of the cello with the rhythmic and colorful elements of percussion, April Rain reimagines these beloved folk tunes in a contemporary setting, offering a fresh perspective on Taiwan’s rich musical heritage.
Duration ca. 9 minutes.
